The BWH research laboratories in the Department of Neurosurgery conduct both basic science research and clinical research to explore a range of complex neurological diseases, such as brain tumors, spinal disorders, stroke, and epilepsy. The aim of our research is to investigate the underlying risks, treatment strategies, and outcomes associated with these diseases and translate new findings to design and optimize neurosurgical treatments for each of our patients. Our faculty and scientists apply state-of-the-art techniques and technologies in imaging, bioinformatics, and genetics to take on an integrated, multi-disciplinary approach in their research activities. Our Department works collaboratively on various research projects, as well as with other local, national and international partnering institutes.
Research areas and group include:
- Brain Immunology
- Disease Risk Prediction
- Epilepsy
- Molecular and Cellular Neurosurgical Oncology
- Neuroapoptosis
- Neuro-epidemiology
- Neurosurgical Oncology
- Neurotrauma
- Spinal Cord Injury and Neural Stem Cells
- Stroke
- Surgical Brain Mapping
- Surgical Molecular Imaging
